Sister Monica Collins Memorial Scholarship Fund

In Loving Memory...

Dear Cherished Alumnae and Regent Community,

The Benedictine Sisters of St. Lucy’s Priory of Glendora are grieved by the loss of Sister Monica Collins. Sr. Monica entered into the heavenly glory of God on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, the eve of the Feast of St. Scholastica, twin sister of St. Benedict.

Sr. Monica was known for her service in education in the San Diego and San Gabriel Valley regions.  She was called to teach English and Religion at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in September, 1972 for 8 years, until she became Principal in 1980 and served 33 years of recognizable leadership.

During her era as leader, student education and drive saw 100% college enrollment and attendance, introduction into the teacher and student computer and technological era, Fine Arts Department with great art, theater, Musical and choral production, and a growth into a strong and challenging sports program that resulted in a memorable collection of well-deserved CIF banners.

Sr. Monica’s credentials include a BA in English from the University of San Diego, MA in English from Loyola Marymount University and an MA in Secondary Educational Leadership from the University of San Francisco.

Sr. Monica is remembered for her understanding and care for all members of the school community.  She guided the entire staff and student body into a community of caring individuals who challenged each other into growth as a spiritual individual and as a member of the larger Church and world society.  Her kindness, understanding and compassion touched students, teachers, parents and guests.

Peace.

Sr. Elizabeth Brown, O.S.B. and Sr. Helen Dziuk, O.S.B.
