Congratulations to three student athletes that officially signed their National Letter of Intent.

Good afternoon, everyone! Today, we are here to celebrate the athletic achievements of three fellow Regents. They have all been offered athletic scholarships to continue playing their sport at the collegiate level for Division I  or Division II schools. This is an incredible accomplishment that was only made possible through their hard work and dedication to their training. It is a highly regarded honor to further play their sport in college and often very difficult to accomplish. We are very proud of our athletes who have fulfilled their dream and reached their goal. Please help me in congratulating our Regent Athletes; Sofia Cervantes, Stevilyn Griffin, and Marly Lough.

Sofia Cervantes
Sofia Cervantes has received a scholarship to continue playing softball at D2 California State University of Monterey Bay. Sofia has been playing for a total of 11 years. She started playing softball at the age of 6 and started playing competitively in a travel softball organization at the age of 9. She has been a starter on the St. Lucy’s varsity softball team for 3 years and is now one of the team captains on her travel softball team, SoCal Athletics. She and her team won the PGF Platinum National Championship 3 years ago. Sofia would like to thank her parents, sister, and coaches for supporting her and helping her reach her goal of playing softball at the collegiate level while furthering her education at a 4-year university.

Stevilyn Griffin
Stevilyn Griffin has received a scholarship to continue playing water polo for D1 Arizona State University. Stevilyn has been playing water polo since she was 7 years old. Stevilyn has been a part of the USA national team since 2017 and continues to represent the USA. Stevilyn has won several gold medals while playing with her Olympic Development Teams . She has also been to Spain with her club team, and this past summer she visited Hungary with her USA team. While she has attended St. Lucys, Stevilyn has worked very hard for her academics and has come a long way. She has worked harder every year to achieve her goal of attending a D1 school for Water Polo and continuing her academics. Stevilyn has always had a positive attitude and is a very uplifting strong person. Stevilyn has been Captain since freshman year, received MVP for her team sophomore year and MVP for her league sophomore-junior year. She also competed in swimming here at St. Lucy, and she was in the group that beat the school record for the 200 Free Relay. Stevilyn looks forward to every season with open arms to new players and new adventures. She  would like to thank her teammates, coaches, faculty,  friends and family. She is extremely grateful for Mrs. Buckhannon, she said that this teacher has impacted her academics and allowed her to believe in herself.
 Stevilyn says to her parents and her brother, “Thank you to the most important people in my life. You guys are the people that stood by me through everything. You pushed me and made me truly believe in myself when I needed it the most in High School. I am so blessed to have you all by my side, and I can't wait to have my biggest fans cheering me on for the next 4 years!”

Marly Lough
Marly Lough has received a scholarship to continue swimming for D1 Penn State University. She has been swimming since she was five years old but began competitively swimming since the age of eight. Marly has been a part of four junior national winning relays and in 2018 won Girls overall. She has been a part of three All-Star teams including the North American challenge cup, which is a meet between Canada, Mexico, and America. At Saint Lucy’s, she has won CIF in the 100 free and was a runner up in the 200 free her sophomore year. She has broken all the school records and has been a team captain for the past three years at Saint Lucy’s. Marly would like to thank her parents for all the hard work and dedication they’ve put into her years of swimming. She would also like to thank her past and current coaches for helping her to get where she is. Lastly, Marly thanks her friends for supporting and cheering her on all these years.
