For about 6 weeks Seniors, Isabella Estorga and Hannah Kachirisky and Freshmen Katia Kachirisky have been learning, conditioning, and preparing to compete in the sport of wrestling. It was an exciting day on Saturday, January 11 as the girls spent the entire day on the Bonita campus preparing for their first matches. Thank you to Coach Tony, Coach Joe, and the Damien Spartan students who assisted in getting our Regents ready for their matches. Thank you to the Spartan parents for providing snacks, moral support, and cheering on our athletes! We are proud of these Regents for making the first ever St. Lucy's Priory High School Wrestling Team!
The nerves ran high at first but once the wrestlers got a match under their belt they all found a rhythm and success. Our Regents received compliments and encouragement from Alumna Allie from the class of 2017, who is a wrestling coach in San Diego, and was very proud to see her Alma Mater Regents out on the mat.
Katia Kachirisky had 1 win 1 loss, Isabella Estorga ended with two competitive losses, and Hanna Kachirisky finished the day in 4th place for her weight class. For their first matches and tournament, the team did well and showed a lot of promise for the season.
If you are interested seeing the girls in action, and maybe joining the wrestling team, come out to Damien Old Gym this Tuesday, at 5 pm for Senior Night and to cheer on our Spartans and Regents as they face Los Osos.
