Sister Patricia was born in Hubbard Woods, Illinois and grew up in San Diego, California. She attended a Benedictine grammar school, St. Mary’s, in National City, and later became a Benedictine herself as a member of St. Lucy’s Priory for more than 60 years.
Sister Patricia’s ministry included teaching and administration in elementary schools staffed by members of St. Lucy’s in the diocese of San Diego and archdiocese of Los Angeles. Some St. Lucy’s alumnae and families may have first met Sister Patricia at Sacred Heart, Covina or St. Dorothy’s, Glendora. Her final position prior to retirement was that of Director of the Child Development Center on the grounds of the Priory. Recently Sister Patricia spoke of these years being the best of her ministry life.
Sister Patricia was very committed to the high school’s practicum offering in early childhood education, knowing such an experience would serve students well as future educators and/or parents. Over the years many SLPHS students were also preschool alumnae who enjoyed reconnecting with Sister Patricia.
The community will have a private internment and, mindful of pandemic safeguards, wait for a better time to celebrate Sister Patricia’s life with a Mass.
