Philosophy
St. Lucy’s Priory High School is a Roman Catholic private school for young women founded by the Benedictine Sisters and guided by the educational standards of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the State of California. As a Catholic school, St. Lucy’s strives to be a “meeting place for those who wish to express Christian values in education”(1). St. Lucy’s ascribes to a fourfold dimension of Catholic education: message, community, service and worship(2). Teaching the message of Jesus Christ is central to a religious instructional program that offers students the opportunity to deepen their spirituality and to integrate their faith with all learning. Building community is best accomplished by the faculty, staff, students, and parents living Christian values in a worshipping and ministering community in which members are recognized for their individual gifts and roles. Service is supported by a faith community creating an awareness and recognition of involvement in economic and social issues within the school, the larger community and the world. Worship is embodied in prayer and liturgy.
St. Lucy’s Priory High School is a college preparatory institution. The school promotes academic excellence as well as an appreciation of knowledge. The school recognizes its responsibility to continue and to broaden the education of its students by offering traditional liberal arts and sciences as a preparation for college. Within the curriculum and its supporting programs, the school also provides opportunities for personal, spiritual, physical, social and cultural growth. As a women’s school, St. Lucy’s provides a unique opportunity to cultivate the values of Christian womanhood, education and leadership. The school creates an atmosphere that encourages academic achievements, personal accomplishments and growth in order to empower students to be successful women in society. St. Lucy’s Priory High School chooses to be a women’s school where the integrity of Christian womanhood is emphasized and nurtured. St. Lucy’s promotes the Benedictine traditions of work, worship, stability, and hospitality in order to form a community that seeks personal and academic excellence. The school is committed to making its educational program available to a diverse community. Through responsible stewardship, St. Lucy’s strives to create a physical environment that is aesthetically pleasing, functional and peaceful. Foyer Table
