Spanish Language Club
The Foreign Language Club is one place where St. Lucy's students can enhance their diversity by learning about other cultures in an exciting way that is different from the typical Spanish or French class. This year, the main goal of the club is to teach students about foreign countries. Each month, the Foreign Language Club highlights a country and plans an activity that brings the culture to life, so the students can appreciate what the country has to offer. This can take the form of a food sale, a movieshowing, or a display about the country.
In order to reach the community, the Foreign Language Club fundraises money from food sales in order to donate to Damien's Tijuana Mission activity in which they participate by going to Tijuana. They also collect clothes and school supplies for the Adopt-a-family program sponsored by the Los Angeles Archdioces to help the poor in downtown Los Angeles.
These events are only some of the activities. Besides donating time and money to reach out to others, the Foreign Language Club seeks to promote cultural events, such as the annual Las Posadas (done in previous years), or to go see a movie or an art exhibition. Lastly, the Foreign Language Club is not just a place to learn about various cultures in the world, but a place where students struggling in their Spanish or French class can come and recieve help from a fellow student from an advanced class. The Foreign Language Club also grants scholarships to a Junior and a Senior who have had outstanding participation.
All in all, the Foreign Language Club is a club where St. Lucy's students can grow in their cultural knowledge and have fun appreciating the diversity of the world around them.
