OBJECTIVES
Our staff objectives are to develop initiative and leadership skills, and promote teamwork, we also strive:
Yearbook 1
  • To represent the diversity, spirituality, and interests of the St. Lucy’s community,
  • To recognize the historical contribution to the school, and in the process, further their understanding of the tradition and values of their catholic community,
  • To publish the yearbook and literary magazine, meeting all necessary criteria and deadlines,
  • To learn art, creative writing, design and publishing software, photography, layout, publishing, and budget and money management through practical experience,
  • To learn to work within a budget,
  • To learn through group interaction,
  • To help students learn to govern and manage groups for a common purpose,
  • To help students respond to events of the year by creatively photographing and writing about the experiences they encounter,
  • To help students evaluate events, writing, photography, and design to meet style guidelines,
  • To help students understand the production techniques, and thus enjoy and understand the publications around them of the yearbook,
  • To utilize photo shop and quark express to produce publications, and
  • To help students gain aesthetic enjoyment of their own experiences and work.

Lumen

The yearbook is a workshop course designed to produce St. Lucy’s LUMEN. It is a nationally ranked publication holding three first place titles from the American Press Association. This is a student-produced production with facilitation provided by an advisor and publisher. Included are practices in page planning, color theory, copy writing, photography, editing, and layout techniques. A two-semester course, first semester begins at 7:15 am, second semester begins at

7:30 am – 10 units. Students must be in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Prerequisite: Minimum GPA of 2.5 and an interview process including teacher recommendation. Pass/Fail grading is used.

EXPECTATIONS
  • I am willing and able to arrive promptly at 7:15 a.m.
  • I am aware that my tardies and absences will affect my grade.
  • I am aware that yearbook takes time and it will be a top priority.
  • I will meet all my deadlines and stay after school if necessary.
  • I will sell the minimum amount of advertisements required.
  • I will collaborate and work well with others.
  • I will uphold the values and traditions of St. Lucy’s.
  • I will demonstrate leadership skills, including responsibilities, initiatives, diligence, and cooperation.
  • I will develop and share talents.
  • I will apply moral and ethical values to decision making.
  • I will express myself creatively, articulately, and effectively.
  • I will exhibit a sense of respect for others and myself.

Literary Magazine

This is a student- produced production with facilitation provided by an advisor and publisher. Included are practices in page planning, color theory, editing, photography, layout techniques, and CD development. A two-semester course, first semester begins at 7:15 am, second semester begins at 7:30 am – 10 units. Students must be in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Recommendation for enrollment: Good writing and analytical skills, above average grades in English courses, an interest in journalism, design and art, interview process and teacher recommendations.
