| Saint Lucy's has been a member of The Foothill Chapter of the NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY since 1964. Juniors and Seniors are invited to participate based on academics, leadership, service, and character. The members tutor other students and are involved in a variety of school and community service projects. | ||
Dear Student, Because of your academic achievement (a current GPA of at least 3.5 each semester for the Sophomore year to qualify as a Junior, or each semester of the Sophomore and Junior years to qualify as a Senior) you are eligible to be considered for membership in the National Honor Society Chapter at St. Lucy’s Priory High School. In addition to academic achievement, however, students must also demonstrate character, leadership, and service to their school and/or communities. These qualities are defined as follows: Scholarship: A commitment to learning and establishing a strong academic foundation. This year we will continue to have an active NHS Chapter. We will provide a peer-tutoring program during lunch. You will be expected to tutor during one lunch period each month. We will be involved in a variety of fund-raising events, such as the musical snack bar, as we seek to raise funds for our annual scholarship awards to incoming Seniors. We will be involved in a variety of seasonal service projects including the McKinley’s book drive at Christmas where you will be expected to buy a book to be donated to McKinley’s Children’s Home. Members are expected to be fully involved in each of these activities and attend monthly meetings. So, this is not just a club to add to your college applications. You must be willing to adhere to the words of our pledge: |

| NHS Pledge: I, being aware of the honor which is being bestowed upon me by my selection for membership in the St. Lucy’s Priory High School Chapter of the National Honor Society, do hereby pledge loyalty to the organization. It shall be my earnest purpose to give unsparingly of my time and energy toward the promotion of all school activities. I will strive to be at all times a model student, and will never knowingly bring reproach upon my school. |

| There is work involved and a time commitment. But the rewards are great. Upon graduation, NHS Life Members will receive recognition at the Awards Assembly, a certificate, and a special gold seal on their diplomas. If you are interested in being considered for membership in NHS, please complete the following activity sheet and turn it in to Room 606 (Mrs. Palmer’s room) on or before Tuesday, September 22nd. | ||
